Firstly, I would like my readers to understand that I blog only when I feel like it. So whenever I post an article it just means that I feel passionate about the content that I am about to write and I have a lot of time doing a lot of my own research so yup. Since I’ve spent a lot of time and effort into creating every blog, I’d appreciate it if you would stop whining about your life and just read what’s written here and share the article if you think that someone else will benefit from this. For your information I started working on this article at 1 pm and ended at 9 pm. Erhum (clears throat) Thank you.
“To diet is not to eat less but to eat MORE of the right food”. In my line of work, I get to meet a lot of people. People with varying needs. However, all of them have something in common. That is to look good, presentable and attractive. I mean who doesn’t like to look good when given the opportunity to do so.
We look at our naked body every time we come out from the shower. Staring at the mirror posing in different angles and judging our physique by comparing it to some super model which we would have embedded as a benchmark in mind. Most of the time we are not pleased with what we see and we immediately begin judging ourselves causing our confidence levels to hit rock bottom. When that happens we begin to blame everything else but ourselves. How convenient. We accuse the food that we eat and instantly start to create a meal plan in the mind. Most often sketched vaguely and certainly never rational. If you are guilty of doing this to yourself i suggest you stop that habit immediately!
We are currently living in a world of illusions. Marketing gimmicks and blah blah black sheep have you any wool concepts. Now i have a question. Why in the hell will anyone want to take wool from a black sheep when there is an abundant supply for white sheeps?
Well the truth is that our mind is built in a way that we are all programmed to live in survival mode. What it actually means is that all of us are created with the instinct to survive. This is an in-built prehistoric characteristic that every reptile and mammal have within themselves. Therefore no one is born special. We only become special when we learn to program our minds to become concious enough to constantly remind ourselves that we are not here to survive but to thrive.
In relation to the title of this article, one should not have the misconception that by eating less you will actually lose weight. The truth is that it doesn’t work that way.
Hmm… I can smell curiosity in the air right now. The matter of fact is, as your body is built to survive, when you begin to eat less your mind senses that there is going to be a shortage of food and automatically signals your body to begin storing just about anything and everything you eat. Slowing down your metabolism.
Have you ever thought to yourself, “I ‘ve been eating so little for the past few days but yet I seem to have lost nothing but wait OH MY GOD I think I just gained some extra weight!” sounds familiar?
trust me I know that feeling of frustration within.
Millions of people go through dieting without even having a proper understanding about it and just assume eating more leafy greens and low carbs or no carbs is going to help them achieve their ultimate goal.
Well I am sorry to say this to you but its about time you re look your meal plans. It is because of stressful city life that we live in Singapore, most of us live sedentary lifestyles, hardly having time for any physical activities but hope to achieve our weight loss goals by dieting and sometimes coupling it with fat burner or weight loss pills to help expedite reaching the goal. These methods will only leave you in bad shape when continued for long term as they come with harmful side effects.
What should I do now? Good question and I am glad that you asked me. Instead of cutting down on what you eat, you should in fact increase the amount of meals you have in a day. If you’re typical meal times are thrice daily, increase it to five times or six times a day. I’m not telling you to eat full meals for five to six times a day. Calculate your macro requirements based on your metabolic basal rate.
Macros or Macronutrients are basically your Protein, Fats and Carbohydrates. You will need to know how much of each to consume on a daily basis. To find out how much you need of each you will first need to know your basal metabolic rate (BMR).
Well this BMR is important for you to know because its unique to you. Men and Women both have different BMR levels and it also varies accordingly to your age, height, weight and lifestyle. You can use the calculator on the left of my sidebar to find out your BMR. Select Metric if you decide to measure in cm and kg.
With your BMR results, you can now begin your meal plan and discipline yourself to not exceed your daily BMR intake. When you plan your meals, it is important to look at the food labels to calculate the amount of Protein, Fats and Carbohydrates.
You must always remember to keep the sodium and sugar intake low during off peak or should i say on the days that you don’t exercise. You don’t want to retain water as well as spike your insulin levels when your glycogen levels are already full.
On those off peak days stay on a low carb, low fat and high protein diet. Increase your carbs when you exhaust yourself carrying weights in the gym. Increasing Carb intake on these days will help refuel your glycogen levels and fill up your muscles.
Maintain a moderate level of protein as well and some fats to repair muscle tear and energy to recover faster. To keep sane during this regime, I strongly advise all readers to have one or two days in a week to eat any damn thing you want.
Some people call it “Cheat” day i call it the “F-Off” day. why? cause everyone is gonna ask you, hey aren’t you dieting? hey aren’t your going to they gym? hey isn’t this food like bad for you? hey isn’t this unhealthy why are you drinking this and eating that? hey isn’t that like a lot of calories? and you guessed it right.. just tell them to erhum, you know what i mean.
So yup that’s just the tip of the ice berg. Feel free to write down your comments and i’ll just leave you some tips as and when possible. Remember to have fun and enjoy the journey. Dreams do come true so..Keep Dreaming..
